It's not hard to spot nature in your garden, you just have to know where to look

It doesn't matter whether you have a large or small garden, even a window box. Nature is at work all around us and the RSPB can help you get the most from the space you have. If you want to make a real difference to the wildlife in your garden why not take part in Homes for Wildlife. It's not all about birds
Discover newts in the pond and pretty dragonflies flying by. Children will love the thrill of finding them so why not encourage them to draw or paint what they see? The finished piece will make the perfect gift for a relative.
As the seasons change, so does the wildlife in your garden or park. Isn't it time you got outside to have a good look at wildlife that's all around you?
Spot it while you can
The RSPB is working to protect all our threatened wildlife including the once common house sparrow. Although these little birds used to be a regular sight, they have declined over the past 30 years. You can help them by planting deciduous bushes, leaving an area of grass to grow longer, creating a wildflower area. All of which are home to a number of insects – the perfect meal for a growing young sparrow.

Your garden and park will be home to many different types of insects. Arguably, the most colourful insects are the butterflies. Butterflies can easily be encouraged into your garden by growing flowers that provide nectar for the adults and plants that provide food for their caterpillars. Provide space in your garden for buckthorn, nettles, ivy, Michaelmas daises and marigolds – butterflies love them!
